Created in direct collaboration with Third Drawer Down, world-renowned artist Cindy Sherman, and + POOL, the Oops phone float is inspired by the New York-based artist’s personal love of swimming and her globally obsessed over online selfie experiments. The project benefits Friends of + POOL, a non-profit organization building a water-filtering swimming pool in the New York River.
About the Artist
Cindy Sherman was born in 1954 in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, and lives and works in New York. One of the most influential artists of our time, she came to prominence in the late 1970s with a group of artists known as the Pictures Generation. Her 2012 retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, travelled to the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; Walker Art Center, Minneapolis; and the Dallas Museum of Art. She has participated in four Venice Biennales, co-curating a section at the 55th exhibition, and has been included in five iterations of the Whitney Biennial, two Biennales of Sydney, and the 1983 Documenta. Sherman will be the subject of a one-person exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery, London, in 2020. The artist is known for exposing how culture shapes appearances, shattering conformities through her portrait-based photography (and with the occasional spontaneous images conjured while playing with Apps for her Instagram @cindysherman)
